Zagreb Theater


Zagreb Theater is a showcase of the life and culture of Zagreb people. The Croats are culturally inclined, and theater performances are an important form of entertainment in Croatia. In addition to popular theatrical forms, puppet theaters and blind theaters also form important constituents of Zagreb theater activities.

The history of Zagreb's theater had its beginnings in the 11th century A.D. In the early years theatrical performances used to be held in the town squares and churches. Later in the 16th century, theaters were performed in the religious schools and on the streets.

Zagreb Puppet Theater

Zagreb Puppet Theater formed in 2005 combines the
excellence of poetic writing and adventurous playfulness to bring life to their performances. Depiction of 'the Odyssey', 'Bridesman Sun and Bride Bridekin' are very popular puppet theaters in Zagreb.

Zagreb Blind Theater Company

New Life, locally termed 'Novi Zivot' is the first European blind theater company formed in 1948. This group has performed all over Europe and has been invited to perform in United States, and Australia.

Croatian National Theater is an integral part of Zagreb Theater. Formed in 1860, the Croatian National Theater has all along been the backbone of Zagreb theater.
