Hrvatski Dragovoljac Club


Hrvatski Dragovoljac Club is a well-known football club of Croatia. Established in the year 1975, the club is located near Zagreb. Initially the Club was known as NK Trnsko 75. However, the club has changed its name many a times. In 1976 the club was renamed as as ONK Novi Zagreb. In 1990 the name was changed to NK Novi Zagreb.

While talking about the history of the club, it should be mentioned that during the Croatian Homeland War (1991) many of the members of this football association joined the battle and fought with extreme bravery. It is said that to honor those great fighters, the NK Novi Zagreb was once again renamed as Hrvatski Dragovoljac. At that time the club members chose black (color of mourning)as the identity indicator.
Since then the Hrvatski Dragovoljac Club is participating in different football matches and is performing well. The fans of this team are called as "Black Warriors" and NŠC Stjepan Spajic is said to be the home ground of this club. In this context, it should be mentioned that the NŠC Stjepan Spajic can accommodate up to 5,000 people.

Some of the notable achievements of the Hrvatski Dragovoljac Club of Zagreb are:
  • 2002 – The Club was categorized as the Second League
  • 1997 – Selected for the UEFA Intertoto Cup and ranked third in the Prva HNL
  • 1996 – Ranked 5th in Prva HNL
  • 1995 – Chosen for the Prva HNL of 1996 by winning the First B League of Croatia
