Crnomerec


Crnomerec is one of the most important city districts of Zagreb. Crnomerec is geographically situated between 45.81latitude and 15.95 longitude. Placed at an altitude of 387 feet above the sea level, Crnomerec follows a time zone of UTC + 1(+2 DT). According to the census report, the approximate population of Crnomerec is 38,762.

Initially, in the 14th century, Crnomerec had been a village, which was known as Cernomerci. Vrhovec, Fraterscica, Cukovici, Jelenovec and Kustosija villages are part of the territory of Crnomerec.

A series of army barracks and factories were constructed along with the suburban housing. Under 1865, 1887 and 1919 urban regulation plans,
Crnomerec served as military and industrial hub of the city Zagreb. Some of the important factories of Crnomerec are:
  • Pliva pharmaceutical industry
  • Franck coffee and snacks industry
  • Zagrebacka pivovara brewery
  • Kamensko textile industry
  • Ciglana Zagreb brick factory
Besides the above-mentioned factories, Crnomerec also houses Ministry of Environmental Protection and Construction, Planning and Interior Ministry of Croatia. MBX Maribor, Zagreb, Varazdin and Cerklje are few of the neighboring cities of Crnomerec.
