Classical Gymnasium in Zagreb houses the ancient Croatian high schools. The Society of Jesus established it, in the year 1607. just after its establishment, the Classical Gymnasium in Zagreb got around 260 students. The integrated course of academic studies of this educational institute is indeed the perfect fusion of Christian moral principles and classical education.
In the year 1977, the name 'gymnasium' was not allowed to be used. At that time, this educational institute of Croatia was known as the Educational Language Center. However, the course of study and the spirit of this organization remained unaffected.

In the year 1995, the school was devastated due to a bomb blast. Soon, it underwent major redevelopment works and restarted its operation. The pupils of this school are mainly14 to19 years old. Presently, there are more than 500 students in this school. Professor Andelka Dukat is the school master of the Classical Gymnasium, Zagreb.
Here ancient and modern Greek language are taught to the students. This educational institute is around 400 years old and claims to be the oldest secondary education institute of Croatia. It has also a well-maintained library, which contains around 30,000 volumes, some of which are extremely rare.
