Zagreb Archaeological Museum is one of the popular attractions of the Croatian capital, Zagreb. It is one of the oldest museums and also the first national museum that was opened to the public in1846. At that time it was a luxurious mansion known as the National Hall. The property belonged to Count Dragutin Draskovic, the first curator appointed to look after the museum.
Zagreb Archaeological Museum features permanent exhibitions, temporary exhibitions, the Lapidarium and the Archaeological Park. The permanent collections are displayed in the first 3 floors of the museum. The ground floor is a store for the Numismatic collections.The second floor holds medieval , Greek and Roman collections while the third floor exhibits

There are almost 40,000 different artifacts and monuments in the Zagreb Archaeological Museum. The collection of Zagreb Archaeological Museum is one of the largest in the whole of Croatia.
Like all other European museums the collections of this museum has been well placed in the chronological order. Besides, the museum also contains Egyptian collection which is the only one in Zagreb. The Lapidarium of Zagreb Archaeological Museum has a rare collection of various stone monuments belonging to the Roman period. These monuments have been placed in the museum's courtyard to form an archaeological park.
