Hong Kong Wetland Park


Hong Kong Wetland Park located in Tin Shui Wai is one of the most renowned conservation parks in Hong Kong as well as in the world. The Wetland Park Hong Kong was developed and designed by the Architectural Services Department. The Hong Kong Wetland Park also forms a major tourist spot in the city of Hong Kong in the midst of nature.

The Hong Kong Wetland Park, stretched over an area of 61 hectares, can be easily reached from any part of the city. LRT Route nos. 705, 706 and 761P take people to the park. Tourists can also avail bus services, which are operated to the Wetland Park from various parts of the city.

This Wetland Park in Hong Kong was established in May 2006 and opened on the 20th of the same month as a replacement and an Ecological Mitigation Area (EMA) for many wetlands, which were lost during the development of the New town at Tin Shui Wai. The park also provides many educational resources to nature lovers. Wetland ecotours can also be arranged at the park.

The Wetland Park of Hong Kong can be visited from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesdays, it remains closed. The ticket counters close one hour prior to the closing time of the Hong Kong Wetland Park. Adults have to pay the admission fee of $30 to enter the park. Children between 3 to 18 years of age have to pay $15, while kids below 3 years can visit the park for free. Annual passes and concessionary packages are also issued by the park authority.
The Hong Kong Wetland Park was established with a number of objectives. Some of them are as follows:
  • To form a major tourist attractions for the large number of foreign tourists who come to the city of Hong Kong
  • To provide a tinge of greenery to the city of concrete
  • To serve as a major recreational area for the people of Hong Kong
  • Provide public awareness about ecology and wildlife
  • Wildlife tourism
The Wetland Park of Hong Kong is home to a large number of animals. These include several varieties of crabs, crocodiles and various species of fishes, birds and insects. Besides, the park also acts as a regular destination for the migratory birds. One of the most important achievements by this park remains the winning of the ULI or the Urban Land Institute’s 2007 Global Award, apart from a number of other awards.
