Tung Chung Fort is one of the historical and archeological sites in Hong Kong. It attracts large number of people annually from all corners of the region as well as from abroad. The fort is located in close proximity to Tung Chung on the Lantau Island. There are two villages that surround the fort, namely Sheung Ling Pei and Ha Ling Pei. The Tung Chung battery also lies on the coast, near the fort.
The Tung Chung Fort has a long historical background. During the Qing Dynasty, it was called the Tung Chung Suocheng. The fort served as the naval headquarters of the Right Battalion of Dapeng. The main objective, with which the fort was built, was to protect the place against the invading Europeans. There are carvings on the fort that depict the date of architecture of the fort as 1832. The Tung Chung Fort in Hong Kong has changed numerous hands since then and has become important offices. At present, it acts as the Public Primary School in Tung Chung. It is also treated as a national heritage site in Hong Kong and was renovated in the year 1988.

There are various modes of transportation that can be availed to reach the Tung Chung Fort of Hong Kong.The nearest bus terminal to the fort is that of Miu Wo, from where one can avail Bus No 3 that goes to Tung Chung Terminal.From the bus terminal, it takes about 30 minutes to reach the fort. Apart from this, the Fort can also be reached via MTR.
Tung Chung Fort, Hong Kong has several attractive features, which leave the tourists spell-bound. There are solid cement bases and granite blocks in the fort, on which 6 cannons with muzzle-loading facilities are placed. The cannons are large and measures almost 70 meters to 80 meters. The walls have several Chinese inscriptions engraved on them. The gateways are also arched and the entire fort is extremely well-planned.
Hong Kong Tung Chung Fort is kept open for visitors six days a week, except on Tuesdays. There are some special days of the year, when the fort remains closed namely on Christmas Day, New Year's Day, the first 3 days of the Lunar New Year and on the Boxing Day.
