The Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or Hong Kong SAR has a highly efficient transport network. The Hong Kong Transportation network includes escalators, buses, trams, taxis, MTR and the funicular railway.
The transportation network of Hong Kong includes the use of the MTR Corporation owned and operated railway system. The corporation runs an efficient railway network that connects the centrally located Kowloon peninsular region with the newly developed and urbanized New Territories. The MTR services are complemented by the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation network or KCR railway network. The KCR railway network runs urban train services on the northwestern and northeastern parts of the city.
Transportation in Hong Kong also includes the use of escalators and moving pavements. This is necessary due to the mountainous urbanscape of Hong Kong. The escalator network is operated on a non-profit basis and users are not required to pay a monetary fee to use the escalator.

Buses are an integral part of the Hong Kong transportation system. There are many private bus companies who offer frequent bus services for the convenience of daily commuters of Hong Kong. Most of the bus routes run as a feeder to the rail transportation network. The public bus services provide the advantage of allowing all passengers a seat for the journey. No passengers are allowed to stand after all the paying seats are filled. Bus operations are supervised by the Hong Kong Transport Department or HKTD.
The railway is specially suited for tourists. It transports passengers to Victoria Peak directly up the slope of the mountain. Local Hong Kong residents also use the funicular railway as a swifter method of reaching the various stop points along the route to Victoria Peak. The is also known as the Peak Tram.
All transport options in Hong Kong may be accessed by the 'Octopus card'. The Octopus card is a prepaid card that has a certain monetary value stored within it. It is a 'contactless' card. The stored monetary value is used when the holder of the card uses a public transport option. The Octopus card can be used at all MTR and KCR network trains.
