Hong Kong Taxi


Hong Kong Taxi can be found in all the places in the region. They are availed by large number of people, both by regular commuters as well as by tourists. There are red, green and blue taxis that operate in the region. The areas of operation as well as the rates of the taxis are different on the basis of the zones covered, which is designated by their colors. The blue taxis operate in the Lantau Island, while the green taxis are restricted to the New Territories. The most availed form of taxis is the red ones, which operate in the Hong Kong Island and in Kowloon.

Hong Kong taxi is well maintained and clean. The taxis are stylish to look at, with a silver top. The taxis in Hong Kong have to abide by certain rules and regulations. They cannot stop anywhere on the roads and if they do they are heavily penalized. The taxis are found round the clock in Hong Kong, but are scarce during the rainy days or on bad weather days. Complaints against taxi drivers can also be made if they refuse to take passengers.

The taxis of Hong Kong are cheaper in comparison to other places. Tips are also accepted by the taxi drivers, but the amount is almost negligible. The charges of the taxis are to be paid in Hong Kong dollars only.
Surcharges are also applicable on the taxis, depending on the areas to which the taxis ply. The amount of the surcharge varies from HK$6 to HK$20. Separate surcharge for luggage is also charged. The minimum fare that is charged in a red taxi is HK$15 for the initial two kilometers. After that every 200 meters is charged at HK$1.40. The blue and green taxis do not have such a high rate as they do not operate in the main urban areas. The Transport Department in Hong Kong has a separate fare table for each type of taxis. Receipts are also provided by taxi drivers, if asked. Diesel fuel and petrol are used in the Hong Kong taxis. In the recent times, LPG is also being used.
