Ta Kung Pao

Ta Kung Pao is one of the oldest Hong Kong dailies published in Chinese. The paper covers all issues related to the political, cultural and economic field. Ta Kung Pao newspaper house is stationed in Hong Kong and is funded by the People's Republic of China.

History of the Newspaper

Ying Lianzhi is the founder of this newspaper. The paper was first published in the year 1902 to aid China in becoming an advanced democratic country. Initially this newspaper did not entertain any political parties, big commercial houses, prominent statesmen, even government officials. However, in contemporary times, this newspaper went on to become the mouthpiece of the Communist Party of China.

Ta Kung Pao of Hong Kong severely criticized the then conservative leaders as well as Empress Dowager
Cixi and aimed at democratic reforms in the early years of 1900. It also stressed at promoting the use of vernacular language. The readership suffered greatly during 1911 on account of Xinhai Revolution. Later on, Wang Zhilong bought the newspaper in the year 1916. Due to scarce readership the paper was out of print till 1925 but was finally published in the year 1926 jointly by Wu Dingchang, Zhang Jiluan and Hu Zhengzhi. The paper was not backed by any political party and lacked any promotional assistance.

Ta Kung Pao became popular during the Second World War and critically commented on the activities of the political parties engaged in the Second Sino Japanese War. After the war, Shanghai edition of the paper was introduced and it was planned by the newspaper house to publish other editions of the paper.

Ta Kung Pao in Hong Kong has its headquarters stationed at Hennessey Road, which lies in Wanchai.
