Sham Chun River


The Sham Chun River has its course in the northern part of the New Territories. It is also known as the Shenzhen River by the local people as it is located in the city of Shenzhen. The river of Sham Chun forms a natural boundary with the People's Republic of China. The Sham Chun River of Hong Kong has got a number of tributaries. These are as follows:
  • Shek Sheung River (River Sutlej)
  • Ping Yuen River (River Ganges)
  • Tan Shan River
  • Ng Tung River (River Indus)
  • Buji He
  • Sheung Yue River (River Beas)
The reservoir of Shenzhen even flows into the Sham Chun River when it gets totally filled up with water. The Sham Chun ultimately flows into the well-known Mirs Bay and the Deep Bay that are located in the eastern part. The origin of the river is at the Wutong Shan of the city of Shenzhen. Steps have been taken to get relief from the problems of pollution and flood by this river. Majority of the streams formed by the Sham Chun River are small, running perpendicular to the northeast-southwest path. The Mai Po Marshes lies at the estuary of the river of Sham Chun.
