The Hong Kong schools pursue a comprehensive education format that extends from the kindergarten level to the matriculation standard examination. Each and every pupil following the Hong Kong educational system has to undergo 5 levels of higher education before he/she is deemed to have completed schooling. The schools in Hong Kong are highly competitive and follow strict codes of discipline. Any discordant behavior is quickly noted and documented. Three minor offenses make a major offense. A number of major offenses lead to the expulsion of the concerned student. Chinese is the official language of teaching in Hong Kong schools. A few elite schools also teach their pupils in English language. Both government and private schools exist under the Hong Kong educational system.
