Hong Kong Railways


Hong Kong Railways are one of the most availed forms of transport in the administrative region. There are two companies in Hong Kong that operate rail services for the public. One is the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation and the other is the MTR Corporation Limited. The latter takes care of the Metro Rail Services in the region, while the former handles the general railway services.

Hong Kong Railways operate local trains in the region that facilitate internal transport for the common people. The mainland of China is also connected to Hong Kong through the train services. The railways of Hong Kong always strive to provide a safe and reliable journey to the passengers.

The Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation operates four lines, the West Rail, Ma On Shan Rail, Light Rail and East Rail. There are more than 100 railway stations that are covered by the Hong Kong Railways. On the one hand, the trains connect Wu Kai Sha to Tai Wai on the Ma on Shan Rail, on the other hand, the northwest
New Territories are connected by Light Rail. The West Rail connects Tuen Mun to Nam Cheong, while the East Rail connects Lok Ma Chau and Lo Wu to East Tsim Sha Tsui. There are also cross-border train services that are run by Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation.

Railways in Hong Kong have several facilities that are traveler-friendly. There are options of purchasing train tickets online also. Various types of tickets are available for the convenience of the passengers. Both combo passes as well as Octopus cards can be used by the passengers. These are also economical to use. The prices of these passes vary according to the distance covered. Usually prices are within a range of $380-$400. Discounts are also offered on the tickets during the weekends.

Special facilities are provided in each and every railway station of Hong Kong for children as well as for elderly people. The trains also have separate facilities for ladies, children and elderly people for comfortable traveling. As a whole, traveling by trains in Hong Kong is both comfortable as well as economical.
