Lantau Island


The Lantau Island is well-known for an ancient Po Lin Monastery and Asia's tallest statue of Lord Buddha in a seated position. The serene beauty of the island draws a large number of tourists to this place. The famous Phoenix Mountain that happens to be the second highest peak of Hong Kong is located on the island of Lantau.

The monastery is open from 9 am to 6 pm and the statue of Lord Buddha can be seen from 10 am to 6 pm. There are bus as well as ferry services that will take one to the Lantau Island in Hong Kong. For recreation,
one can go to the Wild Countryside Park for camping, fishing or swimming. The southern coast of the Cheung Chau Island is known for its pristine beaches.

The Lantau Island of Hong Kong comprises a number of villages. Tai O is a busy town today. Salted fish is a very special dish of the Tai O town. The Hong Kong International Airport, being closely located to the island, makes it easily accessible. One of the major attractions of the Hong Kong Lantau Island is climbing up the Phoenix Mountain to have a spectacular view of the sunrise. Hong Kong Disneyland is another attraction for the tourists.
