Lan Kwai Fong

Lan Kwai Fong is a popular square of streets, which is mostly famous for the restaurants and bars located here. The region of Lan Kwai Fong, located in the junction of the central and the western district of the city, was basically a favorite destination of the hawkers before the Second World War. After the 1980s, however, the Lan Kwai Fong square has become one of the must visit places for drinking, dinning and clubbing. The two ends of the L-shaped street of Lan Kwai Fong joins with the D'Anguilar Street.

Initially, many mui yan or the marriage arrangers used to reside at the region of Lan Kwai Fong in Hong Kong. For this reason, the region was known as the Mui Yan Hong or the Hong Leung Hong. The mui yan were mostly women, and in the olden days, mui yan was referred to as the medium of marriage between two families. In the year 1980, however, Allan Zeman, the famous Canadian-German businessman invested an amount of 32 million dollars. He bought an entire building and renovated it in the form of the Western restaurants. The foreigners soon started gathering at the building.

One of the chief features of the Lan Kwai Fong square of Hong Kong was the Disco Disco, the homosexual disco established earlier in the year 1978. This was one of the reasons for the emergence of the region as one of the most popular night life destinations. The region of Lan Kwai Fong, Hong Kong extends till the Wellington Street and the Wyndham Street and winds up at the Fringe Club of Hong Kong. The Lan Kwai Fong is also home to a large number of art galleries.
