Hong Kong International Airport


Hong Kong International Airport is the principal airport serving the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region or Hong Kong SAR. Hong Kong International Airport is also known as Chek Lap Kok Airport.

Hong Kong International Airport is under the operational control of Airport Authority Hong Kong. The airport authority is fully owned by the Hong Kong SAR government. The operational services of the airport are outsourced to private firms. The Hong Kong Airport Services Limited company is responsible for maintaining the smooth functioning of cargo and related ramps. Private companies like the Menzies Aviation Group and Jardine Air Terminal Services Limited are responsible for relevant aerobridge operations, transportation of passenger cargo and also for the functioning of automated passenger stairways.

The International Airport of Hong Kong has two terminals: Terminal 1 and Terminal 2. Terminal 1 started functioning from July 6, 1998. The second terminal is more recent and started passenger operations from February 28, 2007. Chek Lap Kok Airport possesses two parallel runways. Both runways
conform to international requirements and are suitable for the next generation of passenger aircraft. Hong Kong International Airport is a hub for a number of major airline companies. The Cathay Pacific Airways Limited company runs frequent passenger flight services from the airport to other countries in Asia and Europe. The airline company also operates regular flights to the Middle East. Other airline companies based in Hong Kong include Metrojet, Oasis Hong Kong, Air Hong Kong Limited and Hong Kong Airlines.
