Gammon Construction Limited is a renowned company of Hong Kong that takes care of the construction projects in the city. The company is not only engaged with the construction work in Hong Kong, but also in the regions of the South East Asia and mainland China. The Gammon Construction originated from a construction company belonging to John C. Gammon, in India, in the year 1919. The company later opened its branches in the Middle Eastern countries, African countries and in the Asian continent. Although the companies are mostly independent, there is a constant interchange of staffs between them.
The chief motif of the Gammon Construction is to develop, serve and build physical infrastructures in Asia for the purpose of working, living and traveling. There are almost 2000 permanent staffs working with this privately owned company, which has a joint ownership with Jardine Matheson.
In the year 1970, the Gammon Construction became a public company after the initiative taken by Jardine Matheson. With the take over of the remaining shares of the company by Jardine, the company became a fully owned subordinate company of Jardine Matheson. Fifty percent of the shares was sold by Jardine in the year 1983, which were bought by Trafalgar House, a company based in the United Kingdom that took care of the property, shipping and construction work. This was followed by the acceptance of the Gammon Construction as the most preferred company related to construction in the entire region of Asia – Pacific.

Construction, were undertaken by the Skanska group. The Balfour Beatty group later purchased all the shares of the Skanska group, including those of the Gammon Construction Limited, in 2004. Balfour Beatty is basically an international construction, engineering and services group.
One of the chief products of the Gammon Construction in Hong Kong was the Kai Tak Airport runway that was built in the year 1955. The Gammon Construction, Hong Kong was established as a permanent company in the year 1958. By the end of 1970 the Gammon Construction was well established as a construction company in the city. Since the past 20 years, the Gammon Construction has undertaken most of major construction works in the city.
The Gammon Construction Limited largely specializes in foundations, piling, tunneling, substructures, bridges, marine works, building and the water storage schemes. At present, the Gammon Construction has established its offices in Malaysia and Singapore. The major offices are however still working in the countries of Singapore and China.
