According to the July, 2007 report, approximately 6,980,412 people live in Hong Kong city. A blend of different ethnic communities is a characteristic of Hong Kong Demography. 94.9% of the population is Chinese, 2.1% Filipino and 3% belong to other communities (2001 report). 10% of the Hong Kong population follows Christianity.

People of Hong Kong are called Chinese or Hong Konger. They speak in either Cantonese or English language. The literacy rate is quite high in Hong Kong. About 96.9% of the male population and 89.6% of the female population of the city are literate. People can
cast their vote after attaining the age of 18 years.

The birth rate in Hong Kong is 7.34 births per 1,000 people. 0.956 male(s) per female is the sex ratio in the city. The growth rate of the population in Hong Kong city is about an approximate of 0.56%. Hong Kong demography also features that it is one of the most thickly populated regions in the world. The highest concentration of people in Hong Kong belongs to the age group of 15 to 64 years.

Hong Kong people earn their living mainly from the service sector. A small section is engaged in agricultural activities and industrial works.
