Hong Kong Administration


Hong Kong Administration falls under the purview of the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of PRC (People's Republic of China). Hong Kong has a limited democratic form of government. The head of the Hong Kong Government is the Chief Executive. He is assisted in the administration of Hong Kong by his secretaries, who are appointed by him.

The Secretary for Justice assists the Chief Executive in legal matters. The Chief Secretary for Administration carries out the administration of the policy bureaux as well as formulates and executes the policy matters.The Financial Secretary makes the budget for the government.
The policy-making matters are carried out by the Executive Council of Hong Kong. At present, Donald Tsang is the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. There is a unicameral legislative council in Hong Kong consisting of 60 seats. Court of Final Appeal is the judicial wing of Hong Kong.

Till 31st of December, 1999, the Hong Kong Urban Council and the Hong Kong Regional Council carried out the municipal administration of Hong Kong. Tung Chee Hwa dissolved both of them in order to centralize the municipal services. These two councils were replaced by Food and Environmental Hygiene Department and the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.
