La Chascona, Santiago




La Chascona, Santiago is the house of the celebrated Chilean poet and Nobel Prize winning author Pablo Neruda. La Chascona, Santiago, was built in the year 1953 in the memory
of Pablo Neruda's third wife Matilde Urrutia. La Chascona in Santiago currently serves as the headquarter of the Pablo Neruda foundation.

The house of La Chascona, Santiago, was designed by the poet himself. In the beginning, only one bed room and a living room of the house was built. Gradually, one dinning room and kitchen was added.

The structure bears all the design elements as visualized by Pablo Neruda.The house has winding stairs and a library. La Chascona literally means "Woman with the tousled hair". At present La Chascona has been transformed into a house museum.

La Chascona in Santiago is located at San Cristobal Hill. The visitors to La Chascona are required to pay a fee to gain an entry to the museum. The library of La Chascona has an enormous collection of books and paintings that belonged to Pablo Neruda. Guided tours are also conducted to visit Pablo Neruda's home in Santiago.
