School Education in Santiago
There are both Spanish and bi-lingual schools in Santiago. While the Spanish schools are extremely popular among the Chilean residents, the international community in Santiago is leaning more towards the bi-lingual schools. A number of Chile nationals are also getting increasingly interested in these bi-lingual schools. However, the best bi-lingual schools impart education at the elementary and the primary levels. Higher education, on the other hand, is largely imparted in Spanish. The government lends special support and grants to these Spanish medium schools.
Following is a list of Santiago schools:
- The International Preparatory School
- Colegio Nido de Aguilas
- Asociacion de Colegios Bitanicos
- The Redland School
Santiago Colleges and universities look after the higher education sector of the city. Santiago College, a Methodist institution from the 19th century, is one of the most prestigious educational institutes of the country. Santiago boasts of as many as four universities. These attract large number of students from all over Chile and from some of the neighboring countries as well. Although most of these institutes were guided by sectarian and missionary ideals at the time of establishment, yet liberal ideas of education have been incorporated in later stages.
