The Cerro Santa Lucia, Santiago, is linked to other regions of Santiago by the local metro railway network. The hill has an altitude of 629 meters. On 16 December 1983, Cerro Santa Lucia was acknowledged as a national monument. According to tradition, a canon is fired from the top of the hill of Santa Lucia during the midday. At Cerro Santa Lucia there are various monuments.
Castillo Hidalgo and La Marco were the two defensive structures that were added at the hill of Santa Lucia by the royal troops under the leadership of General Casimiro Marco del Pont.The General was the Spanish Governor of Chile. At present,Castillo Hidalgo has been transformed into an events hub and is a place were weddings are held.
The idea to transform Santa Lucia hill as a major attraction was proposed by Benjamin Vicuna Mackenna. After that large-scale renovation was carried out at Santa Lucia hill. Various kinds of vegetation and tress were planted to deliver a gorgeous look to the hill. Paths and stairways were built that connected the fountains at the hill.
From the top of Cerro Santa Lucia, a panoramic view of Santiago can be seen. Cerro Santa Lucia is positioned on the right side of "Alameda" main road. The tourists to Cero Santa Lucia can reach the place by getting down at the Santa Lucia - Line1 metro station. The tourists are advised to take the major entrance on Alameda. There is no visiting charge to Santiago Cero Santa Lucia.
