Structure of Santiago Administration

and Talagante. The other major cities of the other provinces include Puente Alto of Cordillara Province and San Bernardo of the Maipo Province. The provinces are connected with a highly developed communication system to facilitate proper administration.
The Province of Santiago
32 out of the 37 provinces or municipalities are part of the Province of Santiago. Each municipality is governed by Alcalde or a Mayor, who heads concejales or the municipal council. Both the mayor and his council are elected for a term of 4 years by the citizens of the respective municipalities. The election takes place at the same time, although votes are cast in separate ballots.
