The University of Ottawa is the oldest and famous Canadian University. The University was originally known as the College of Bytown and in 1866; it became the University of Ottawa. It was basically a liberal arts college which offering courses in applied sciences in both English and French language. Founded by the Missionary Oblates of Mary Immaculate, the University offers bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctoral degree programs.
Another renowned university in Ottawa is the Dominican University College which is mainly a Roman Catholic University. The University was initially known as Dominican College of Philosophy and Theology and offered bachelor's degree, master's degree and doctoral degrees in Theology and Philosophy. The university has a sister branch in Montreal which provides courses in liturgical theology.
