The Old Sod Folk Music Society of Ottawa



An important contribution to the folk music community of Ottawa has been made by Old Sod Folk Music Society of Ottawa. Old Sod Folk Music Society of Ottawa is a voluntary non-profit organization.
It helps in the development of contra dancing in Ottawa.

Contra dancing is a unique for of dancing which blends the social dancing forms of Ireland, Britain and France. This form of dancing was revived during the 1950's and 1960's and it has gained tremendous popularity all over North America.

Each and every month the Old Sod Folk Music Society in Ottawa sponsors two Contra dances. These Contra dances take place at All Saints Anglican Church on Saturday evenings at sharp 8pm. The entrance fee for Contra dances in All Saints Anglican Church is $10. The beginners participating in these Contra dances are given dance training in basic workshops which span for half an hour and are held from 7.30 pm.

Old Sod Folk Music Society of Ottawa has made its presence felt on the musical scenario of Ottawa since the early 1980s. The word "The Old Sod" means the old country. The following are the performers of Old Sod Folk Music Society:
