Rideau River is one of the famous rivers of Ottawa, Canada. It extends from the Rideau Lakes, north of Ottawa and falls into Ottawa River. During the construction of Rideau
Canal this river was re-channeled in several places. The most convenient way of reaching River Rideau is from Ottawa. One can travel south of the Highway 407 to reach this river.

In certain sections Rideau River is part of the Rideau Canal. It joins numerous lakes of this area. You can boat in this river. If you want to pass through locks on the Canal it is necessary to pay a fee. Large motorboats and yachts are not uncommon to this river. Fishing boats also crowd the waters of the Rideau River.

Rideau River of Ottawa is home to many species of fish such as channel catfish, largemouth bass, walleye, small mouth bass, yellow perch, bluegills, brown bullhead, northern pike and black crappie. The warm water of this river mostly contains the Ontario species of fish.

The water of Rideau River is extensively used for irrigation purpose in the agricultural farms that lie around Ottawa. The River also serves as an important transportation medium for the passage of boats and yacht. The practical purpose served by the Rideau River has increased its importance in the Ottawa region of Canada.
