Ottawa Police provides protection against criminal offences and serves the regions of Ontario and Canada. Ottawa Police Service (OPS) was established in the year 1855 and in the year 2005 the organization completed 150 years of its service. The present Ottawa police service is an amalgamation of Ottawa, Gloucester and Napean polices forces which merged in 1995. Vern White is the present Chief of Police in Ottawa.

Ottawa Police has 19 community policing centers and 5 police stations. For the purpose of better functioning, the entire city of Ottawa has been split into three sections, comprising of six police districts and there are separate officers in each of these who cater to the needs of the people.
