National Gallery of Canada was formed by Canada's Governor General John Douglas Sutherland Campbell in 1880. In 1911 it moved from Parliament Hill to Victoria Memorial Museum. Again it moved to Elgin Street in 1962. In 1988 it moved to its current building.
Canada National Gallery has got a wide collection of drawing, painting, sculpture, photographs etc. Though Canadian art is the lime light of these works, the work of many European artists can also be found here. The collection of modern art is sure to leave you spell bound. This includes the work of Andy Warhol. National Gallery has also got Barnett Newman's famous painting 'Voice of Fire'. The painting of Francesco Salviati is included as well. On the other hand the Canadian collection contains the work of Tom Thomson, Alex Colville and Emily Carr.
