Ottawa International Jazz Festival


The Ottawa International Jazz Festival is a summer musical concert that takes place all over the city. The festival features various combinations of Jazz music played by international artists as well as local performers. The most preferred festival sites are the Metropolitan Brasserie and Dominion-Chalmers United Church.

The Ottawa International Jazz Festival is the second longest running jazz festival of Canada which is still organized on a regular basis. The festival is entering its twenty-sixth year of performance. The first Ottawa International Jazz Festival was held in the year 1981 and was organized some local musicians and performers like Tony Pope,

Bob Misener and late Bill Shuttleworth who wanted to pay a tribute to the local jazz scenario. The festival immediately gained immense popularity and became a major Canadian cultural event, drawing people from all parts of the world.

The Ottawa International Jazz Festival presents unique concerts of Jazz musicians playing Cuban and Klezmer together and other fusion music. The fusion of Cuban and Klezmer music is a common feature in the Ottawa International Jazz Festival. Noted percussionist, violinist, saxophonist perform at this mega event. The Jazz festival also raises funds for noble causes. In the tenth annual concert in 2007, several gift items were auctioned for during the show.
