The forests around Ottawa are home to numerous species of trees that serve as the raw material for the lumbering industry. The lumbering industry in turn facilitates the development of paper and printing industry. The lumber exports of Ottawa grow at an annual rate of 1.5%.
The industrial growth rate in Ottawa during the years 1990 to 2001 was 6%. This figure gives a promising picture for the overall industrial development of Ottawa. The industrial development gives rise to greater employment opportunities in Ottawa.
