Highway 416 Ottawa

Highway 416 Ottawa, also known as Veterans Memorial Highway, is the latest addition to the 400 series highway in Ottawa. It began operations and was made available for general use in 1999.
Highway 416 links Highway 417 in Ottawa and Highway 401 near Prescott. Highway 416 plays a pivotal role as it provides the trade link between New York and eastern Ontario via a 60 km stretch of Highway 401.

Highway 416 was built in two phases partly as Highway 416 South and Highway 416 North. It is also known as the Kings Highways 416. Highway 416 North is positioned at a new alignment beginning at the Century Road. The road comprises of five junctions, service roads spanning seven kilometers, four lane freeways stretching up to 21 km and as many as 27 bridges. The southern section of Highway 416 was constructed by putting up another brand new road alongside the one already present. This meant that the Highway was now transformed into a one way freeway. Highway 416 is thus one of the most well developed freeways in the country designed to enable effective transportation.

Highway 416 is an integral part of transportation in Ottawa and is noteworthy for its wide median and several modern innovations designed aptly to lower the environmental impacts. The impact of Highway 416 was quite effective since its formation. From June 6, 1999 Highway 416 was referred to as "Veteran Memorial Highway".
