Ottawa Administration


Ottawa administration is the responsibility of the city’s council which comprises of the Mayor and twenty three councilors. All the members of the city council are elected by the citizens for a period of four years. The main issues of Ottawa administration is discussed in the meeting of the city council which is held every second and fourth Wednesday every month. The council sometimes also meets consecutively for a number of days in case of emergencies or other types of necessities. The Standing Committees and the Advisory Committees which are appointed by the Council are also integrally involved with the
administration of Ottawa.

The most interesting thing about administration in Ottawa is that the citizens are allowed to attend the city council meeting and the general public can also make a presentation in the Standing Committee meetings. Every person above the age of eighteen can be actively involved in the affairs of Ottawa government by not only casting their vote but also by directly interacting with the authorities or becoming a volunteer. The Audit and Consulting Services Branch which was a part of Ottawa administration till 2004 was replaced by the Office of Auditor General. The fiscal matters of the Ottawa city council is handled by the Auditor General.
