Opera Varna


The Opera Varna has a distinguished name in the field of performing arts. The professionals teaching opera in Varna are skilled and outstanding at their performances. Varna Opera House is an acclaimed institution in Bulgaria and interested candidates join the institution and perform under the guidance of experts.

The Varna Opera House was renamed as Varna Public Opera House on 6th April, 1947 and was officially inaugurated on 1st August, 1947. Stefan Nikolaev was the first music director and Peter Raichev, the popular Bulgarian singer, was the first guest Art Director. Peter Raichev appointed fifteen young, talented singers for the solo performances. Boika Vasileva, Ivelina Demireva, Tatyana Nikolova, Kostadinka Nikolova and Daniela Ivanova-Dimova are some of the soloists.
An orchestra, a choir and a ballet group were created under the supervision of the young and competent artist Ruslan Raichev, the choir-master Dimiter Mladenov and the famous choreographer Assen Manolov. The first show was "The Bartered Bride" by B. Smetana. All the senior artists carried rich experience and had good command over the staging and directing processes.

The history of the Varna Opera was recognized for the priceless contributions of many expert singers, ballet dancers, directors, composers and choreographers. Almost 200 productions and 7000 performances were housed in the Varna Public Opera House over 50 years. Some of the famous shows in the Opera Varna include Mozart's "Cosi Fan Tutte" in 1960, Dvorak's "The Devil and Kate" in 1961, Britten's "Albert Herring" in 1964 and many more.
