Varna, the capital of Varna Province is the third largest city of Bulgaria. The city was founded as an ancient Greek trading colony named Odessos in 580 BC. During the middle ages, the city's control was taken over by Byzantine and Bulgarian. By 1393, the Ottoman Empire captured the city. But in 1829 during the Siege of Varna, the city was besieged and taken over by the Russian army. Now it is an important port in the eastern part of Bulgaria and also its important economic center.
