The coins of Sofia come in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 stotinki and 1 lev. The notes are available in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 leva. 1 lev is equal to 100 stotinki. Citizens from some countries can stay in Sofia free of visa up to 3 months (90 days). These countries include New Zealand, United Kingdom, Australia, USA, Canada and ROI. For extension of stay, one has to pay 200 leva for 6 months and 500 leva for a year. Credit cards are accepted by majority of the restaurants, shops and hotels of Sofia.

The tourists visiting Bulgaria are advised by the Bulgarian Health Authorities to have a medical insurance certificate before entering the country.
