The National Museum of History is located in the capital city of Sofia, Bulgaria. This museum was founded on 5th May, 1973. Prof. Dr. Bojidar Dimitrov is the current director of the museum. It is one of the largest museums in the Balkan Peninsula. There is an approximate of 600 artifacts on display across its 5 halls. There are belongings of the 7th century BC in the museum.
National Museum of History received a special award from European Museum Forum in 2002 for its achievements in the field of preserving the cultural heritage of the country. Boyan Radev's collection hall features the contributions made by the famous Bulgarian collector and sportsman. The museum is open from April to October between 9:30 and 6 pm. From November to March, it is open from 9 am to 5:30 pm. It remains closed on the national holidays.
National Museum of History in Sofia charges certain amount for entry to the visitors. It is 10 leva for the adults and 1 lev for school children and university students. Besides, membership cards are also available. However, the entry into the museum is free of cost on the last Sunday of the month for the children under school age, uniformed soldiers and physically challenged. For taking pictures, one has to pay a certain amount of money.
There is a conference hall in the Sofia National Museum of History that can accommodate 350 people. Besides, there is also a library, souvenir shops, information desk and cafe bar for the visitors. The museum provides lectures in various fields like ethnography, history, museology and art history absolutely free of cost.

For getting to the museum, there are buses on the routes of 63 and 111. Besides, trolleys are available on route number 2. Mini-buses operate on route number 21.
