The location of Sofia is in the central-western part of the country of Bulgaria. This city is also the capital city and the largest city of the country. Sofia, Bulgaria covers an area of 1310 square kilometers and is located at a height of 550 meters above sea level. The city lies on the latitude of 42°40'60'' North and longitude of 23°19' East.

Sofia is encircled by mountains from all sides. The Lozen Mountain lies in the southeast, Lyulin Mountain in the southwest, Balkan Mountains in the north and Vitosha Mountain in the south. The mountain of Vitosha is the 4th largest mountain of Bulgaria with Cherni Vrah as its highest peak.This peak is located at an elevation
of 2290 meters above sea level. The three major rivers of Sofia are Vladaya, Iskar and Perlovska River.
