There are 24 municipalities under the Sofia Local Government. General Boyko Borisov is the mayor of Sofia Municipality. The Sofia Municipal Council has chosen 7 deputy mayors. The mayor is the head of the county. The city of Sofia is one of the 28 provinces of Bulgaria. Sofia Local Government also encompasses three more cities apart from the capital city and 34 villages. There are 24 municipalities under the Sofia Local Government.

The Sofia Municipal Council has chosen 7 deputy mayors. The general harmonization and power of the activity of the administration is under the control of the Municipal secretary. The mayor and the deputy mayors do not have the right to take part in the governing bodies of political parties and they also cannot conduct profitable activities during the phase of their authorization.
The Mayor of Sofia may participate in the meetings of the Sofia Municipal Council and has the right to vote. The Mayor of Sofia enjoys some powers and performs certain responsibilities.
