The Church of St. George is a rotunda made up of red bricks in the capital city of Sofia in Bulgaria. It is also one of the oldest buildings in the city. The structure of the church is located amid the remains of Serdica, an ancient Thracian town of Bulgaria. The Sheraton Hotel, a representative of the modern age Sofia, forms a background to this ancient Church of St George.
The history of the St George's Church dates back to the 4th century AD, when the Romans set up the church. It is famous for its beautiful decorations in the interior parts of its central dome. In that part of this ancient church of Sofia, there are a few frescos, which date back to the 12th to the 14th century AD. Many of the frescos were also painted towards the end of the 14th century AD, during the time of the Ottoman empire. This was the time when the church building was used as a mosque. The courtyard of the Church of St George has the remains of a few historical structures, which are as old as the church. Currently, the Church of St George in Sofia is used as a museum. With a rich history behind it, the Church of St George, Sofia is one of the most popular tourist attractions in the city. It is frequented by tourists from all over the world every year.
