Sao Paulo Population


Sao Paulo population in 2003 was 321,474 (approx). People from various parts of the world reside in this place. The population of Sao Paulo has shown a rapid increase over the years. This is because of the large scale immigration that took place in the 19th and 20th century.

According to the last research conducted by the National Research for Sample of Domiciles (PNAD), Sao Paulo population consists of 70% White people, 5% Black people, 23% Pardo and 1% Asian. As per the 2006 report of the IBGE, there are about 40,490,757 (approx) people in the place.
A section of different ethnic communities in Sao Paolo include Italian, Japanese, Lebanese Christian and Arab people. History maintains that the early settlers were from southern Portugal. The ancestral group of Sao Paulo population includes Portuguese, Italians and Spanish.

Most of the Arab population in the place is of Lebanese or Syrian descent. The rest of the population in Sao Paulo consists of people from Afro-Brazilian and German descents. There is even a Jewish community in Sao Paulo.
