Sao Paulo Demography


Sao Paulo demography shows a conglomeration of a large number of ethnic communities. There are Lebanese Christian, Italian, Japanese and Arab population in Sao Paulo. The diversity in the Sao Paulo demography is due to high scale immigration of people from various corners of the world during the 19th and 20th century. The early settlers were people from the southern part of Portugal. According to the 2003 census, the population of Sao Paulo is approximately 321,474.

The diversity in the demography of Sao Paulo has led
to a variety in its culture, food habits and attire. As per the report of the National Research for Sample of Domiciles, Sao Paulo has got 70% White people. Other inhabitants include the Black people, Pardo and people of Asian origin.

Besides, the demography in Sao Paulo also features a number of people belonging to the Afro-Brazilian and German origin. Portuguese, Italians and the Spanish are the major ancestral groups of Sao Paulo. One will also come across a section of Jewish population in the place.
