Andrei Gromkyo also served as an ambassador of the Soviet Union. In the year 1943 he was appointed to this post. In his tenure as an ambassador he represented Soviet Union in many international conferences held in Yalta( 1945), Potsdam(1945) and Tehran( 1943). In 1944, he led the Soviet delegation in the Dumbarton Oaks Conference. He was also a permanent Soviet delegate to the United States. From 1952 to 1953 he served as an Soviet Union ambassador to Great Britain.
He had served the nation as a foreign minister in the year1957. For twenty eight years he held his post as a foreign minister and during his tenure he became the main negotiator between the Soviet Union and the United States Government. Later in 1987 he was appointed the Soviet Union's President by Mikhail Gorbachev.
Andrei Gromyko efficiently negotiated the Nuclear Ban treaty, the ABN treaty, SALT 1, START and INF agreements with the United Nations.
