Riffa was originally the center of power till 1869. The fort was built in 1812 by the present Bahrain Amir's great grandfather. The interior of the fort is quite spacious and divided into chambers. This fort is one of the best places to feel the intensity of winds that blows over the desert sands during the nights.

Riffa Golf Club is another prime attraction of East Riffa. It is situated in a beautiful wadi (dry river bed). It is the only golf course to offer floodlit play. Many tourists visit Riffa solely because of this Golf Club.

West Riffa is mainly a residential area. Most of the important government officials and businessmen reside in West Riffa. The famous clock tower of Riffa is located in the center of West Riffa.
