The present site of Museum of Sydney used to be the first Government House built by Governor Arthur Phillip in 1788. The erstwhile Government House used to represent the authority of the Governors in Sydney. The site is reflective of the colonial power of the British in Australia.
This Government House was destroyed in 1864. But archaeologists have unearthed remnants of the building in 1983. The remnant of this historic building forms a part of the Museum of Sydney.
