Sydney people are popularly known as Sydneysiders. The statistical data of Sydney people proves the fact that most of the people lead a high standard of living. The people of Sydney come from multi-cultural background as the city experiences a large migration of people from all parts of the world, which has affected the ethnic and cultural diversity of the city.
The traditional owners of the Sydney City are the Cadigal Band and “Eora people” is the name given to the coastal Aborigines around Sydney. Aboriginal people moved from different parts of New South Wales and Australia to Sydney city during the 20th and 21st century. Almost half of the Sydney’s indigenous population had died in the epidemic of 1789, though some continued to remain in the city.

There have been many significant people who at one point of time had made important contributions towards the history and culture of the City of Sydney. Some of the most remarkable ones are Arthur Phillip and Thomas Townshend. Arthur Phillip was the first governor of New South Wales District and Townshend was the first viscount of Sydney. The city of Sydney is even named in honor of Townshend.
