The sale of the Saturday editions of the Sydney Morning Herald is higher than the sale of other newspapers. Competition records in the daily sale have proved that The Daily Telegraph is the highest selling daily newspaper in Sydney, and the Sydney Morning Herald is accredited the second position.
The Birth of the Sydney Herald in 1931 was preceded by the conclusion of the publication of the Sydney Gazette. The Sydney Gazette would come out four times a week but after its publication became daily, the old name was dropped and the new name adopted. The employees of the Sydney Gazette, Frederick Stokes, William McGarive and Alfred Stephens founded the Sydney Herald. Ten years later, the copyright of the Sydney Herald was purchased by John Farix. On this occasion, the name of this newspaper was changed to Sydney Morning Herald.
