The other lesser popular languages are Cantonese, Italian, Mandarin and Vietnamese. Some people in the Southern Sydney Region also speak Greek, Portuguese and Macedonian. Darug is another popular language, which was spoken by the Aboriginal group of people who mainly inhabited the regions in and around the Sydney city. The Darug language has been divided mainly into two dialects, based on the coastal and inland location. However, now it has become an extinct language after other prominent European languages established their foothold in the city.
