Sydney Catchment Authority (SCA) established in the year 1999 is an agency set up by the New South Wales government to protect all the catchments in Sydney that stores and supplies water to different locations. Water is distributed to different customers including the local councils and Sydney water. The water is filtered by Sydney Catchment Authority's customers and supplied to different households for drinking and other purposes. The water supplied by the Sydney Catchment Authority is used by almost four million people in Sydney and surrounding regions.
The Sydney Catchment Authority functions with the help of a government body that comprise a board of 9 members, minister for climate change, Hon. Phil Koperberg MP, minister of environment and water, chief executive and SCA’s general manager.

One of the main functions of the Sydney Catchment Authority is to safeguard and maintain the quality of the supplied water to its customers. To maintain the heath and hygiene standards, water quality monitoring is carried out by the Sydney Catchment Authority. An annual report stating the quality of water monitored by the SCA is published every year.
