Hawkesbury River is a major river of New South Wales region in Sydney, Australia. This river is the result of combination of many other smaller tributaries. These include the Cordeux River, the River Cataract and the River Avon. These rivulets water the slopes of the plateau, which is towards the inland area. This forms the escarpment behind the Wollongong.
These small rivers finally join to form the River Napean. The Napean River marks the western boundary of the region of Sydney. When the Napean River joins the Grose River it becomes the river Hawkesbury. The Hawkesbury region is home to a number of aboriginal tribes including the Kuringgai people, the Dhurang people and the Darug people.
The Hawkesbury River is a commercially important river as the pisciculture in the place accounts for huge annual income. The annual income shows a whopping turnover of $ 6 million. Oysters, prawns and other kinds of fish are available from this river. This is the second largest commercial coastal fishery in New South Wales region.
