Broken Bay

The Broken Bay had been so named by Captain James Cook because of the apparent appearance of the broken land that formed the bay region. That was the year 1770, the time, Australia was discovered by the European world.

The land structure of Broken Bay is such that it allows the entry of the Pacific Ocean into the inland area forming a bay. The geographical coordinates of the Broken Bay corresponds to 33°31' South and 151°19' East.
This inlet of the Pacific Ocean has three extensions. It is the estuary joint of Pittwater to the south, the Hawkesbury to the west and the water of the River Brisbane to the north.

The Broken Bay is famous for the Lion Island. There is a wildlife sanctuary in this island, which is of the shape of a lion. Fair penguins of this island are the chief attraction for the tourists. Sailing in the Broken Bay is fun as the surrounding scenic beauty is fabulous. It is the area around Pittwater arm that attracts the maximum number of visitors.
